This cotton futon is 100% hand made to order in the USA in our New Bedford, MA factory.  It features a removable cover made of 100% Cotton from Japan.  We have been making and using this design since 1995. Custom sizes available! Our futons are handmade with 90% Cotton with the minimum amount of spun polyester wrapping to meet mandatory Federal Flammability requirements. The cotton is selected by us to be very clean and odor-free. We do not use any boric acid powder or flame retardant chemicals in our futons (as other cheaper futons do). The futon shell is made from 100% unbleached cotton.
Our futons are completely hand made in the traditional Japanese style. It takes 2 craftsmen at least 4 hours to complete each futon. They are hand tufted as in Japan and feature ties and tufts on the futon and the corners. Our futon can be used as a mattress topper, directly on the floor (like a Japanese futon) or placed upon a futon frame (we suggest a tatami mat or 1/8 sheet of plywood placed underneath for even weight distribution and comfort-available from any big box store). It is the perfect futon for college or back-to-school. It will make those college institutional mattresses so much more comfortable. A worthy investment as good sleep will contribute to mental stability (don't get a good nights sleep and see how you feel).
We revived this futon line from ancient Japanese techniques and brought it to our Etsy store in hope that we could show the benefits of the way sleep used to be before companies started marketing Memory Foam and complicated sleep systems. Our goal is to show that all natural cotton inside a futon can in fact give you the best sleep ever (something the Japanese have known for over 400 years).
This futon is approximately 4-6 inches thick and will vary slightly based on the density of the cotton (natural variations found in cotton). We fill it for loft and feel and also take into consideration the specific characteristics of the current cotton used and how much it will settle over time (each shipment will vary slightly and is tested extensively for the exact characteristics we control for). It is designed to become an heirloom and last for many years. This is not a casual "temporary futon" designed to be used for short periods and thrown away. 

As per Federal Law, the cotton inside the futon is wrapped in a thin polyester webbing, used to pass the mandated 30 second open flame test.  This polyester uses heat to bond it instead of chemicals.  It is made in the USA and the highest quality spun polyester on the market.

Shipping will be via GROUND and is fully insured for loss/damage.  We offer a standard 30 day warranty for defects in materials and workmanship.
